Clay Pot Turkey Decoration

Materials:

  1. 2-to-3-inch clay pot
  2. 1/2-inch wooden craft ball
  3. Very small craft bow
  4. 2 wiggly craft eyes
  5. Paintbrushes
  6. Hot glue gun
  7. Hot glue
  8. Craft paint in yellow, brown, red, and brown
  9. Craft feathers in fall colors
  10. Old newspapers or plastic

Making:

Lay some old newspapers or plastic over the top of your work surface to protect it from paint and glue.Paint the entire clay pot with the brown paint and be sure to cover every part of its surface.Use brown paint to paint the wooden craft ball. Let both the pot and the ball dry completely before moving on to any other steps.Place the clay pot upside-down on your work surface, so that the opening is down on the table.Use a hot glue gun to attach the wooden ball to the clay pot. You will need to hold the ball in place until the glue hardens enough to let the ball stand on its own. You should now have an upside-down pot with the wooden ball on top of it; this has formed the head and body of your clay pot turkey.Glue the two wiggly craft eyes to the front of the turkey's head. You can place the eyes anywhere that you like on the round head of the turkey, but they should leave plenty of room for a beak and waddle.Use yellow craft paint to make a small upside-down triangle beak on the turkey's face underneath the wiggly eyes, and two crown-shaped feet in the front of the pot toward the bottom. A good way to tell where the feet should go is to place them on the little raised rim that most clay pots have at the top.Dab some hot glue onto the bottom of the clay pot on the turkey's back. Apply some craft feathers to the hot glue. Place the feathers so that they form the shape of a fan behind the turkey, to make it look more like a real tail.Paint a red waddle underneath the beak on the turkey's face. If you are not a great artist, you can just make an upside-down heart shape for the waddle.Use the hot glue to glue the small craft bow to the turkey's neck right below the round ball head. This will help to disguise any gap there might be between the turkey's head and its body.Display your turkey on the table as a centerpiece or on shelves in other areas of your home.
